Melanocyte Transplantation Surgery
Melanocyte transplantation surgery is a specialized procedure used primarily to treat vitiligo, a condition characterized by the loss of skin pigmentation due to the destruction or malfunction of melanocytes (the cells responsible for producing melanin, which gives skin its color). The goal of this surgery is to restore pigmentation in the affected areas by transplanting healthy melanocytes from a donor site to the depigmented areas.
Indications for Melanocyte Transplantation
* Vitiligo: Especially in stable, non-progressive cases where the condition has not spread or changed for at least 6-12 months.
* Piebaldism: A genetic condition characterized by the absence of melanocytes in certain areas of the skin.
